"This presentation is part of a wider research project into the ways in which contemporary sound artists are re-cycling existing material – real and imaginary - in this case song, in order to subvert the listeners’ habitual responses and highlight hitherto ignored, unnoticed or unknown elements attached to that song. Using work from a variety of sources, I hope to be able to suggest what this re-cycling does to our reception of the material and that this re-framing and re-contextualising of existing sonic artefacts is an essential category or methodology of sound arts practice which is often used to counter the hegemony of white western male voices that have traditionally dominated the discipline."
