The Sound Bench

The Sound Bench is a specially manufactured bench for sound art in the public room

During the autumn semester 2022, the Sound Bench plays sound interpretations of ongoing research at Lund University. These sound works are produced by Umami produktion AB.

ACOUSTOFLUIDICS Created by Julia Rakel Öjbrandt Wikenmo & Per Augustsson
In Per Augustsson's research, sound is a phenomenon that contains energy that can be converted into motion if the sound bounces or passes through an object. The object can absorb some of the sound that passes and then steals some of the energy that is converted into a force that can affect its movement. Some of the sound will also be reflected by the object and this also gives rise to a force and movement.

SCHOOLS OUT Created by Johan Chandorkar & Viveka Lyberg Åhlander
Viveka Lyberg Åhlander's research is about how factors having to do with a person speaking, in combination with factors in the environment, affect the speaker's voice - and how this affects the listener's understanding of the message. For example, will a schoolchild remember what he/she learned just as well if the teacher is hoarse?

LOUD SILENCE Created by Sofia Chanfreau & Jonas Borell
Jonas Borell's research examines sound-related disturbances in office work environments and how different forms of sound masking in open office landscapes are experienced by and affect those who work there.
